Fairfax County Public Schools Teacher Matt Rice of Springfield, Virginia has sadly passed away. He died by suicide on Saturday 18th May 2024 leaving family, friends, colleagues, and students heartbroken. He was announced dead by his brother on Facebook through a post that reads “Lord give my family strength. My brother, Matt Rice, has taken his life this morning.
Please pray for all of us.” He was a loving and caring brother, husband, father and colleague.

Matt Rice attended Robert E. Lee High School where he graduated in 2000 and went on to further at Old Dominion University. He was a dedicated teacher at Fairfax County Public Schools. Matt’s impact on students, colleagues, and the community was immeasurable. He was not just an educator; he was a beacon of positivity, authenticity, and selflessness. His presence was a rare gift, leaving an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know him. He was the embodiment of vitality and enthusiasm. His classrooms were always filled with an infectious energy that captivated his students.
He had an uncanny ability to make learning an exhilarating adventure, ensuring that every student felt valued and inspired. His lessons were not confined to textbooks. Matt believed in teaching life skills and imparting wisdom that extended beyond the classroom. He encouraged critical thinking, empathy, and resilience, preparing his students to navigate the world with confidence and compassion.

One of Matt Rice’s most remarkable qualities was his selflessness. He consistently put the needs of others before his own, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to his students and colleagues. He believed in the power of a positive attitude to overcome obstacles and inspire others to do the same. His resilience and unwavering faith in the goodness of people were truly inspirational.
