How did the incident happen?
A peaceful evening walk turned tragic when a 15-year-old boy from St. Albert was fatally stabbed while walking his dog with his mother in north Edmonton on Tuesday night. The assailant, a man they knew from the area, attacked the teenager, leaving his family and the community in shock. The incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. near the intersection of 137 Avenue and 184 Street. Police responded swiftly to reports of the stabbing, finding the boy with severe, life-threatening injuries.
Despite immediate efforts by police and paramedics to save him, the boy succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Homicide detectives were subsequently called in to investigate. The boy’s mother, who was present during the attack, recounted the harrowing experience on Wednesday afternoon. She explained that she and her son frequently walked their pitbull in the neighborhood and recognized the assailant from their routine outings. The mother, heartbroken and in shock, believes the attack was the result of a mental health episode suffered by the perpetrator.
Authorities arrested the suspect shortly after the incident. Details about the man’s identity or any prior interactions with the family have not been disclosed by the police. An autopsy for the teenager is scheduled for Friday, which will hopefully provide further insights into the tragic event.
