Three times best groom award recipient Jenny Ducoffre has sadly passed away. She was announced dead by Eurohorse Axel Verlooy through a social media publication that read “It is with great sadness that we share the news of the passing of Jenny, a beloved and dedicated groom. For over ten years, Jenny devoted herself to the well-being of the horses and the successes of Jos Verlooy and Eurohorse. Her dedication, love for the horses, and tireless efforts left an indelible mark on everyone who knew her. Her loss is deeply felt by us all. We will remember Jenny as a dear colleague and a true friend. Our thoughts and condolences go out to her family and friends during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Jenny. You will be greatly missed.”
Who was Jenny Ducoffre?
The accomplished groom for Jos Verlooy of EuroHorse has witnessed five-star triumphs, championship medals, and Longines watches. However, the horses themselves continue to be the main factors in her success. The winner of the Best Groom Award at the CSI3* Indoor Friesland at the end of October of last year spoke with HorseGrooms about her specific grooming mixtures, advise for those just starting out, and her special position with the Verlooys. She has been employed at the prestigious training and sales company EuroHorse in Grobbendonk, Belgium, for ten years.
About Jenny Ducoffre
Olympic show jumper Axel Verlooy, his wife Nena Verlooy, and their son Jos Verlooy—who won gold for the team in the 2018 FEI Nations Cup Final in Barcelona and the 2019 FEI European Championship in the Netherlands—own EuroHorse. Together, they’ve built an unconventional career path for her, one that includes riding the horses, making her own grooming products, and even contributing to the creation of new items for Jos’s longtime sponsor, Kentucky Horsewear.
Ducoffre has received the Best Groom Award three times. HorseGrooms sat down with her during Jumping Mechelen CSI5*-W, held in Putte, Belgium, on December 26-30 to talk about her favourite memories, her philosophy on working with horses, and her horse care methodology. She will be deeply missed by her family and the entire community.
