35-year-old Dustin Pope of Statesville, North Carolina has tragically passed away. “He was announced dead through a social media publication that read. R.I.P Dustin Pope.. we weren’t good friends but we worked in the trenches many days and had lots of cool memories. I drove a Jeep with a 4cyl on 40s to Charlotte just to help you out in a job. I’ll never forget that man. My condolences to his family.”

The NC State Highway Patrol responded to and looked into a deadly collision on I-77 North in Iredell County near mile marker 56 on Thursday, May 23, at around 1:40 a.m. A 1998 International box truck was struck by a 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle that was heading north on I-77 when it failed to slow down enough.
Dustin Kyle Pope, 35, of Statesville, was the motorcyclist who was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene from his wounds. Ruben Reyna Anorve, 45, of Charlotte, was the box truck driver; he was unharmed. According to the preliminary inquiry, one of the contributing factors in the crash was high speed. For almost two hours, the local traffic was closed in order to conduct the on-scene investigation.
