St Louis MO:- Three people died following a deadly accident that happened on Interstate 270 near Interstate 55 on Friday morning, the 24th of May 2024. One of the victims has been identified as Michelle Yeager. According to reports, Michelle Yeager and two other girls passed away from injuries sustained in the motor vehicle crash.
How did the crash happen?
Authorities are investigating a tragic crash that occurred in the northbound lanes of I-270 and blocked all lanes near the ramps to I-55. According to reports, a 1998 GMC Yukon rear-ended a truck after the truck driver pulled over, believing his load was coming loose. The truck driver exited his vehicle and assisted in rescuing one of the children from the SUV after it caught fire. Unfortunately, he was unable to rescue the woman and the other child.
What happened to the victims?
A woman and a 7-year-old child were pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. A 10-year-old child was taken to the hospital but passed away from her injuries. The woman was identified as 45-year-old Michelle Yaeger. As of 4 p.m., all lanes had reopened.
Hancock Place School District statement:
The Hancock Place School District confirmed in a letter to families that the girls were students at Hancock Place Elementary School. Though the last day of school for students was Thursday, the district said crisis counsellors would be available at the elementary school beginning next Tuesday for those who need help processing the tragedy.
“We are saddened by the loss to our school community and will make every effort to support students, staff, parents and others impacted by this tragedy,” said Dr Brandy Yarbrough, the district’s director of counselling and community outreach.
“As you can imagine, it’s been a shock to everyone in our school community,” Superintendent Dr. Kevin Carl said in response to a request for comment. “Our hearts and prayers extend to the family during this difficult time. Both of the girls were students at Hancock Place Elementary School.”
