A woman was struck and killed by a car in a deadly dune accident, according to the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 11:37 on Sunday morning. The incident’s victim, Kadie Price, 33, of Pierson, Michigan, was named. This incident happened in the Vehicle Scramble Area on the “Drag Strip” portion of the Sand Dunes in Silver Lake State Park. This is in Oceana County’s Golden Township, the news release states.
Kadie Price and her family were observing the action at the Silver Lake Sand Dunes Drag Strip from outside their car. A Jeep CJ was speeding northward on the drag strip while they were watching. The Jeep sped quickly and went out of control. The Price family was watching when the Jeep skidded off the drag strip and lost control. After the Price family’s car was hit by the Jeep, Kadie was also hit.
She was able to move her 2-year-old daughter out of the way just before she was struck, probably sparing her from severe injury or worse. Along with workers and deputies from Oceana County State Park, other passersby also tried to help Kadie. Unfortunately, first aid did not work. Due to her injuries from this collision, Kadie Price passed tragically. The inquiry is ongoing and will remain open.
The man from Michigan, 64 years old, is the driver of the Jeep. In order to allow for additional research, his identity is not being revealed at this time. The employees of Silver Lake State Park, Michigan DNR officers, accident investigators from Mason County Sheriff’s Office, life ambulance personnel, and Hart Fire Department provided assistance to the Oceana County Sheriff’s Office.
