Then, according to witnesses, Barnes sat and waited for the cops to arrive, yelling, “An eye for an eye!” several times. It is thought that the terrible incident stems from a fatal encounter that occurred four years earlier. During a traffic stop in 2020, Gino Barnes, the 19-year-old son of Barnes, was fatally shot by Sergeant McCaffrey. The debate turned into a furious verbal altercation about expired tags. Reportedly, McCaffrey opened fire after Gino Barnes reached for his glove compartment to get his insurance information.

Following the Sergeant’s eventual acquittal on all counts, Douglass Barnes vowed to exact revenge. Authorities disclosed that Douglass Barnes had discovered Samantha’s impending prom by carefully monitoring Sergeant McCaffrey’s social media accounts. Barnes followed out his revenge plan that fateful night, transforming a happy night into a nightmare. Barnes is being held without bond while the investigation is ongoing, and it is anticipated that he will be charged with several crimes, including first-degree murder.
It’s expected that his trial will garner a lot of attention and rekindle old scars for the McCaffrey family as well as the community. Sergeant McCaffrey continues to be placed on administrative leave, and the Livonia Police Department has not yet issued an official comment addressing the event. The McCaffrey family has asked for discretion during this trying time.
