Reporter at ABC11 WTVD in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Greg Barnes has sadly passed away. He was announced dead by CBS17 Photo Journalist Ray Duffy Jr., through a social media publication that read “RIP Greg Barnes your legacy of covering Fayetteville and Fort Bragg area for ABC11 over 30 years. You taught me so much about reporting the news, doing interviews and most importantly being someone who could be trusted by the audience. You will never be forgotten, my friend.”
Greg Barnes was a native of Lumberton, North Carolina and a 1969 graduate of Lumberton Senior High. He also attended UNC Pembroke from 1970 to 1974. He was a Reporter at ABC11 WTVD in Fayetteville, North Carolina, and also a former 1490 WFLB DJ. Greg Barnes has made the decision to retire after 34 amazing years. Greg works out of Fayetteville for ABC11, covering a wide range of topics from Hurricane Hanna to accompanying soldiers from Fort Bragg to Saudi Arabia. Greg Barnes began working for ABC 11 Eyewitness News in 1983. He established and oversaw the station’s Fayetteville News Bureau.
