Liberty City MO:- Preston Hickert, a sixth-grade teacher and cross-country coach at Heritage Middle School (HMS) in the Liberty School District has passed away. He was announced dead today, Thursday, the 30th of May 2024. He had a calming presence and was extremely kind, he touched the hearts of so many and was an inspiration to everyone who knew him.
Stratton Edwards said Preston Hickert also known to many as Mr. Hickert was a great teacher at Heritage Middle School (HMS). His death was claimed to be unexpected, however, the circumstances of his death are unknown. There have been comments on social media, but no one knows what caused his death. Thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.

Preston Hickert made a strong commitment to the students at Heritage Middle School (HMS) through his roles and actions both inside and outside the classroom. In his third year of teaching, he has positively impacted nearly every student by being a teacher, student council advisor, and cross-country coach. Hickert’s classroom is welcoming, friendly, and fun, and he extends his support beyond academics by engaging in activities like playing basketball after school and attending student events.
His Passion and Effort
Hickert was passionate about personalized and project-based learning and led the “HMS by Design” pilot program, which encourages students to explore real-world experiences and contribute to their communities. His efforts have earned him recognition from faculty, staff, parents, and the Missouri Association of Student Councils, naming him the Missouri Middle School Advisor of the Year. As a kindness advocate, Hickert strives to model and teach kindness, grace, and passion to his students daily.
